Competition Rules
Important Rules Re: Sparring:
All matches scored on the “10 Point Must” system prior to deductions
(Standard 60 sec. Rounds, 30 sec. Rest.)
Any draws will have a sudden death match to determine a winner.
Only attacks with the stick are allowed: Hits, Slashes, witticks are legal
Target areas are: The front and sides of the thighs and body, both arms and hands, the top, front and sides of the helmet
The back of the body and back of the helmet may be hit if facing the opponent ( witticks-circular strikes-indirect strikes)
Both arms and hands are legitimate targets
Scoring is based on : Power, accuracy, target areas, techniques, focus, offense, defense, ring generalship, aggressiveness, etc..
You must exhibit some kind of defense (movement, parrying, blocking, etc…)
No grappling, wrestling or hooking
No pushing or striking with any part of your body
No footsweeps or throws, thrusting or butt strikes, 2 handed strikes
No strikes to the knees or below, to the neck, groin or direct strikes to the back
No checks to the face
No striking consecutively to the same spot more than (2) times.
Trapping and parrying are allowed. Locking and holding are not
An instantaneous “Hold and Hit” with an immediate release is allowed, but not continuously through the match.
Disarms must be immediate, or have an immediate release
Joints may not be locked or twisted for a disarm
You may use the ring to control the action. You may not use it to avoid action
To signal surrender or stop action for an injury, equipment failure, etc., raise both hands and back up. Do not turn away.
1-2 disarms shall be scored as part of the match; 3 disarms will result in a TKO
No swearing or other un-sportsmanlike conduct at any time by fighters, coaches, or spectators
Maximum of two persons only in each fighters corner during a match
Do not remove any equipment, including helmet, until the end of the 3rd round. After the 3rd round, only the helmet may be removed until a winner is declared.
Headgear, chest protectors, stickfighting gloves and sticks will be provided
Personal equipment may be used with prior approval
Elbow, forearm, knee, thigh pads, mouthguard, protective cup and tennis shoes are mandatory for sparring.
Short or long sleeved T-shirts must be worn for sparring. No sleeveless T-shirts under chest protectors.
Shin Pads, and head scarves are recommended.
Towels to wipe off equipment, not to wear under the helmet.

Traditional Philippine Weapons Only
Traditional : No music. Kicks to the belt or below.
Open : Music. Changing weapons during the form. High kicks, etc. will be allowed.
2 min. max; A point deduction from the beginning of every minute over the max.
The weapon should constitute at least 80% of the form.
Competitors should finish near their starting position, unless notification is made to the judges.
Bladed weapons should be dulled, or wooden.
Forms competitors may use tennis shoes or bare feet.
Dropping of a weapon is scored as part of the form and not a disqualification.
Proper Attire: T-shirt, Vest, Uniform Pants, No Street Clothes or Jewelry.
